Pheon Models Set up by new club member Rowan Broadbent, Pheon Models is literally about to release its first set of WWI decals.

A new resource for the WWI aviation modeller!

Pheon Models has been set up specifically to provide the products that we modellers of First World War aircraft have wanted for years.

Our first line of products is a series of decal sets of unprecedented accuracy and quality, which will build with regular releases to cover aircraft and units of the air forces of all the major powers. Where worthwhile kits are available (not just in current production) we will produce sheets catering for modellers in all three major scales, 1/32, 1/48 and not forgetting those modellers faithful to 1/72nd – we know there are plenty of you out there as well!

The maximum number of options that we can fit on a sheet – giving you the largest choice and a chance to produce a model that, while not unique, will stand out – you will need to be careful when cutting out items from the crowded sheets!

Colour accuracy – we will not compromise on the number of colours used and we will aim to get as close to the original shades as current research allows, using the best match that the media permits.

Variety – we aim to produce markings, not just for the well known and “glamorous” units, machines and pilots, but also those of the important and often overlooked ones.

Painstaking research and design.

Silk screen process to produce the finest detail possible – lines as fine as 0.075mm!

Accurate register – careful monitoring and set up of the printing process minimises paper shrinkage and movement between colour runs.

Minimal carrier film – our coatings are trimmed as close as possible to the individual ink designs and both they and our inks are thin as well as flexible; applied to a gloss surface, “silvering” will be a thing of the past!

Low volume production runs will allow us to cover subjects others won’t tackle – ever – and some subjects you thought you’d never see!

Availability – we will always try to keep up with demand even if this means reprinting in small runs.

Clear and accurate plan and side views clearly showing paint scheme details, with historical notes and lists of references.

Regular new releases – we are in this for the long haul – with your support, that subject you’ve always wanted to do will probably arrive – eventually!

Look for the announcement of our upcoming website in the modelling press and on the internet – as well as secure ordering, there’ll be news of new products and the opportunity to have your say on what you want to see! It’s an overused phrase but Pheon is run by a modeller for modellers (and himself!) and we’ll always try to stay in tune with your demands.

Our debut sheets – due for release in the next few weeks – are for Sopwith Pups of the RNAS and RFC in France (not a training scheme in sight – these are the fighting Pups!). Ten different and colourful aircraft in 48^th (A4) and 72^nd (A5) scales – with a couple of slightly controversial takes on markings, careful and accurate reproduction of letters, numbers and inscriptions and reds and blues matched to existing fabric samples – this is not a sheet you’ll want to miss, get those Airfix and Eduard/Flashback Pups out of the loft!

Next up, in April, will be a highly colourful set for SPAD VIIs of the Escadrille Lafayette, the 103^rd Aero Sqn. and SPA 124. In 32^nd (two A5 sheets) for Roden’s new kit and in 48^th an A5 sheet for the Special Hobby version. Fourteen separate machines, some in brilliant colours, covering both plain “yellow” and camouflaged examples; cockades in French and US colour orders, with the option of a later, darker blue for some of the USAS SPADs; six different Sioux Warrior heads in 48^th and four in 32^nd plus the earlier Seminole version for Capitaine Thenault’s early VII. All the Lafayette stalwarts are covered, plus Czech and Portuguese pilots of SPA124 – simply lovely!
