Farnborough Model Show 19th September 2009
Paul, Russell, Dale and Tony took the 40 mile trip up the M3 to display our wares at IPMS Farnborough's annual show.
Once again we were impressed by the quality of models on show and number of bargains available from the traders. In particular the quality of the tombola which for a sum of £1 you could have five goes of wining a model from an impressive selection. Dale was first to try, winning a Revell 1/32 Stuka, then Russell won a Revell Cessna. Dale was desperate for the top prize of a 1/350 Hasegawa IJN Nagato and was gutted when Tony returned with it under his arm (his daughter Cailtin having picked out the winning ticket) well over a £100 of model! Tony also managed to bag a 1/72nd Revell Tornado GR1. Paul wasn't quite so lucky and was the only one of us to come away empty handed.

A good number of other club members were to be seen browsing the stalls , leaving with booty under their arms.
Hendon Model Show 31st May 2009
Not content with spending only half a weekend at a model show Paul Adams along with other club members Phil Butler, Paul Guppy, Russell Eden and Dale Koppi attended the IPMS Barnet model show at RAF Hendon on Sunday 31st May. The club stand was pitched underneath the nose of the Mk X Beaufighter enabling us to display our three Beaufighter models, two courtesy of Ben Short - including a 1/72nd scale MK X!
The club tables were spread out amongst the exhibits which gave a very open feel to the show, and it kept a steady stream of model show and general public visitors passing by our table all day to view our work. The standard of models in the show was very high, particularly on the host club stand, and this was reflected in the quality in competition area. Paul Adams won for the second day on the trot by achieving a class win in civilian vehicles with his Assen GP Yamaha M1.
The trader hall was busy and many bargains were had by the club members including an unidentified Japanese warship (Dale), more Phantoms (Phil) and a cheap jeep set (Russell). Fellow club member and proprietor of Pheon Models, Rowan Broadbent reported a good day with his new WWI aircraft decal business.
In all a great, if tiring, day out!Salisbury Model Show 30th May 2009
Paul Adams, Keith Hawkins, Dave O'Meara and Tony Adams where on stand duty for one of our favourite annual shows. As ever the show was well attended by modellers and the public alike . There was a good turn out from other clubs , exhibiting to a high standard. There was also a far number of vendors well placed to take Tonys's cash. Paul Adams won first prize in the vehicles category of the competition for his Yamaha M1.
Eastleigh Model Show in aid on Naomi House 25th / 26th April 2009
This was a new show that aimed to raise fund for Naomi House Children's Hospice. Held over two days at Barton Pevril College Eastleigh the show was a mixed modelling event having railway , boat and static model societies exhibiting. The location was excellent with a good size carpeted sports hall allowing plenty of room to show off our hobby. Along with a boating lake and excellent catering facilities this should have been an excellent show. However unfortunately the show seems to have been let down by a lack of advertising and consequently we had very few visitors over the two days.
Paul Adams, Tony Adams and Vic Short manned the club stand on Saturday, with Tony and Vic trying unsuccessfully to complete a kit in a day. Tony was attempting a Hobby boss P-51B which he gave up prior to the painting phase due to the lack of airbrush power! Vic modelling a Italri 1/72 Predator made an outrageous amount of progress by his standards and hopefully has cleared his "modelling block". He went home promising to complete his kit by the end of the weekend.
On Sunday Richard Stewart, Keith Hawkins and Dave O'Meara took over stand duty with Keith building a RNLI lifeboat. The stand was noticably different over the two days though it would be difficult to select a winner on quality, it is good news that the club can continue to put out diverse excellent quality displays.
Poole Vikings Show: 18th April 2009Russell Eden, Dale Koppi and Paul Adams manned the club display at the 2009 edition of the Poole Vikings Show on Saturday 19th April. Other club members visiting were Keith Trotman, Tony Adams and Daughter Caitlin who were on hand to man the table for 3 hours. Mr Pheon Models himself, Rowan Broadbent was found looking for his decals (attending as a trader for the first time, he forget his stock!) Rowan also provided some of his excellent aircraft models for our display, so we were suitably sympathetic.
As ever, shopping is always a priority at any show (it would be rude not to!) and without too much encouragement members parted with their hard earned cash. Russell left with some cheap bases and decals, Paul purchased another WWI aircraft kit, the lovely Special Hobby Morane Saulnier in1/32nd (will he ever build them is the question!) and some bike bases at 50p for the pair. Bargain! Tony increased the size of his equipment with a purchase at Cammetts (a Iwata Revolution TR1 : but don't tell his partner!) and Dale left with 300 men!
The competition tables appeared a little down on entrants this year, but quality prevailed. Russell picked up a silver in Dioramas for his Fast Recon Vehicle, Dale was left unrewarded for his efforts with the Airfix Fearless whilst Paul bagged a silver in civilian vehicles for his 2007 Assen Yamaha M1. This show marked the first occasion the club ventured to use a new cloth colour for the display. We were duly awarded Best Club Display. Result!

Yeovilton: 14tH FebRuary 2009 The club made it’s now annual visit to the spring model show at the FAA Museum, Yeovilton on Valentines day. This event is always a popular show with members and modellers as it’s a first chance for many to view the latest creations and get much needed hobby supplies and kits.
Making the journey were Vic Short, Gary Jarman, Keith Hawkins, Russell Eden, Dale Koppi, Paul Adams and a guest from Les Garagistes, Shane Price displaying some of his superb F1 and bike models.
Though we had a good day at the table, attendance appeared to be down a bit on last year, and as the financial crunch continues to bite, even the club members restrained themselves to just a few purchases.
Russell, Paul and Shane entered models into the
competition, but with automotive subjects in with everything else that
apparently didn’t warrant it’s own category, and stiff opposition in armour from
the very talented Paul Cherriman, we all came away without reward.

April 2009: A Rainy Day in Malta by Richard StewartWell it was a very rainy day in Malta and we were meant to be going on a glass bottomed boat but as anything “boating” was cancelled I decided to put the idea to the wife that there was a very good craft village close by. Now right next door to this is an excellent aviation museum in which houses amongst other things is a Spitfire and Hurricane both of which have been completely rebuilt by the Maltese, the Hurricane will be in taxing condition next year!
What I did not realise was at the time there was a Model Expo hosted by the Maltese IPMS. I was amazed to see the array of different models on show and the quality of each one was absolutely stunning. The aircraft in particular were very nicely mounted on bases in dioramas.
I'm not really an Armour man but these models on show were of the highest order and well worth a second look but unfortunately as I was towing one uninterested wife and two boys (Plutonium and Uranium!). If I stayed any longer something would have come crashing to the floor! Before I did go I had a chat with some of the organisers who were a very dedicated lot and very interested in giving me as much information as they could. They are a very proactive group as they had a table encouraging children to 'have a go' with the aid of one of the staff which I think is a good way of getting 'new blood' into the hobby.
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to their Expo (albeit short) and would like to thank the organisers for their hospitality. Maltese IPMS www.ipmsmalta.com
