On Sunday 4th September Romsey Modellers held its 3rd Build a Model in a Day event. 10 intrepid members took up the challenge and were found equal to the task when at 4.30pm after just 7 hours of hard graft some fantastic models were placed on the competition table. After judging Malcolm Grant’s Sherman was deemed a worthy winner, however everybody who took part should be congratulated on their efforts which produced models that would grace many a show’s exhibition tables.
It gives us great pleasure to finally announce confirmation that Romsey Modellers are now an official UK IPMS branch.
We are now listed on the homepage’s link to branches, which includes contact details for the secretary (Paul) and a link this website. We are determined not to lose the Romsey Modellers name tag we’ve had since the clubs inception, and so we’ll be known as IPMS Romsey (Romsey Modellers). I anticipate we’ll be known to most by our original name, which is just fine, as saying “IPMS Romsey open brackets Romsey Modellers close brackets” is a bit of a mouth full!!
The impact of this affiliation will not be seen immediately, though we expect an upturn in membership, improved exposure through the IPMS website, and the publishing of our articles in the bi-monthly IPMS magazine. Long term we’ll need to look at possibly displaying at Scale ModelWorld, Telford. The rest we’ll just have to wait and see!
Voting took place at our November meeting on all 52 entries across 9 categories the category winners going on to complete for the John Cox Memorial Trophy at our December meeting. Karol Wicinski’s Spanish Galleon took the overall prize.
After last months round of judging for the class winners and runners up, the club’s final meeting of 2010 will see a Best in Show winner crowned and awarded the John Cox Memorial Trophy. A record 52 entries were seen last month from 13 members. Superb!!
All 13 members will need to bring all of their models back with them in case they are required for the ‘vote off’ for the overall winner. Members who entered in the ‘I ran out of’ class will not be required to do so as entries are not eligible for Best in Show.
Voting was very tight in some classes with positions being decided by just a few points. Class winners will be announced at 8:30pm, so be prompt!!
In addition it is of course our Christmas night – so please bring along some nibbles (tasty treats, Christmas cake, mince pies, biscuits etc, or some soft drink) and possibly something for the raffle. We’ve already had generous donations from Vic Short and Just Add Imagination, but a little something will help proceedings along. You may also of course wish bring along your wife, girlfriend, husband, boyfriend or partner to witness the great spectacle that is the Romsey Modellers Christmas night!!!
At our November meeting we said goodbye to Vic Short who is leaving the area for pastures new in Suffolk. To thank Vic for all of the hard work he has put into the club over the last 8/9 years we clubbed together to purchase a “small” leaving gift!…
This year’s “Build a Model in a Day” event will take place at Ampfield Village Hall on Sunday 5th September. The event is open as far as models are concerned, you can build what ever takes your fancy, adding any after market details if you see fit. The only rule is the kit must be unstarted at the beginning of the day.
We will make a start at 9 am and run to 5pm allowing time for judging any completed kits and announcing the winners.
Along with a coveted trophy there will be £25, £15 and £10 “Just Add imagination” vouchers for the 1st,2nd and 3rd placed entries.
As last year we ask for a £3 contribution per modeller to cover the cost of the hall hire.
We should be able to accommodate 25 modellers, we are intending to invite members of Poole Vikings, IPMS Salisbury and IPMS Portsmouth.
