Romsey Modellers at Scale ModelWorld 2013

Friday 8th November. : Setting up

By Tony Adams

Paul and I arrived at Telford after our 180 mile drive in the rain at around 1 pm and after a vital.cup of tea gained access to our table in Hall 2 of the Telford International Conference Centre.

On arriving at our table we had a wonderful surprise, as we found a cake complete with our new logo : was this something that a virgin societies to the show were presented with? The mystery was soon solved when Chris turned up and claimed “bakership”. Following a quick trip to Sainburys to get some polish for the shelves ( and a huge amount of snack shaped provisions) it was time to lug the models in from the car park.

We had a little panic when we realised that the tables were narrower than the tables we had practiced the display layout on Wednesday but magically we fitted all 39 models on the table with space to spare. We only had one miss hap with an antenna on Gray’s Lunar module needing a quick swipe of CA (Gray if you reading this, don’t worry – we are professionals and the model is recovering well!)

Eventually we had all models on the table ( after executing a search for Sean’s Hellcat) , followed by a hour of concentrated “feng shui”  we were happy with our display.

Romsey Modellers becomes IPMS Romsey

It gives us great pleasure to finally announce confirmation that Romsey Modellers are now an official UK IPMS branch.

We are now listed on the homepage’s link to branches, which includes contact details for the secretary (Paul) and a link this website. We are determined not to lose the Romsey Modellers name tag we’ve had since the clubs inception, and so we’ll be known as IPMS Romsey (Romsey Modellers). I anticipate we’ll be known to most by our original name, which is just fine, as saying “IPMS Romsey open brackets Romsey Modellers close brackets” is a bit of a mouth full!!

The impact of this affiliation will not be seen immediately, though we expect an upturn in membership, improved exposure through the IPMS website, and the publishing of our articles in the bi-monthly IPMS magazine. Long term we’ll need to look at possibly displaying at Scale ModelWorld, Telford.  The rest we’ll just have to wait and see!

Paul Adams wins Best in Show at Hendon

Romsey Modellers’ own Paul Adams won Best in Show at Sunday’s model show at Hendon aircraft museum. His winning model of the 1999 Aprilia RSV250 ( see the November 2010 edition of The Romsey Modeller) won against some very strong competition. Congratulations from all at the club.
